A Comparison of Liberal and Transformational Theories of Social Change


Catholic action for social change is not concerned with just fine tuning the social structures that already exist. Catholic action for social change is concerned with the transformation of the social structures of society and the conversion of heart of the human person. These two things take place in a mutually reinforcing and dialectical relationship. However, the greater society places emphasis on adjusting the status quo rather than focusing on the need for radical change. The differences between both approaches are as follows in the chart below.
